The purpose of #onelittleword is choosing a word to focus on for the year. It is something created by Ali Edwards, and she offers a workshop that is intended to help guide you towards focusing on your chosen word and there are art projects involved and there's scrapbooking involved.
And that's just too complicated for me.
But I really like the idea of choosing a word to focus on for a year. A word to be guided by. A word that sums up what I want to be doing for the year.
Considering just how much I want 2015 to be for me, this #onelittleword business just makes sense.
There are so many things I want to be doing with myself, so many new ventures I want to take, so many improvements to be made. I knew that I would be able to find a word that paralleled all the things I wanted to be doing!
I found words that sounded okay, and I wrote them down on a list, but there was one that kept coming back to me, even when I wasn't thinking about this project.
And that word?
EMBRACE.
It wouldn't get out of my head! And I kind of just took that as a sign, and have taken off with the idea.
And even before it's officially 2015, I'm loving it.
I love that EMBRACE has so many different meanings. It could be as simple as more hugs (which is fabulous all on its own). It could mean accepting who I am, in all parts and ways (which is something I'm slowly starting to be able to do). It could mean looking at new ventures and not shying away (which is something I definitely need help with!).
I don't want to get into the "special snowflake" talk, since we all know that we are our own person, but I do want to touch lightly on the subject.
I am the one in control of what my year is going to be. You are in control of what the year is going to be for yourself. Nobody else gets to have any say about what you do or do not get to try.
Most of the time, it's myself who is telling me what I can and cannot do. And I'm hoping that 2015 will be the start of a lovely friendship with myself, involving me NOT doing this (nearly as often).
And the best way I figure to do this, is to just do it. Make some mistakes, and learn from them. Try new things and see what turns out awesome and what doesn't. Learn new things and make an effort to do something with them.
For 2015, EMBRACE is my #onelittleword that I hope will help me find some BIG things.
I hope 2015 can be the same for all of you as well!

P.S. - Whether it's already 2015 for you at this point in your day, or (like me), you're still in the mid-morning on the last day of 2014, I wish you all a very, very happy new year!
Happy New Year! I love your word, Embrace. My own mother has taught workshops on naming your year. I have never attended, but last year chose the word Kindness. I sure could have been kinder to myself in many ways, but I have been kind enough not too beat myself up too hard either. Looking back, I did exude kindness in many ways to many people.
ReplyDeleteI have not come up with a 2015 word or name yet, but I expect that I will.
I think that's the beauty of picking a word for the year, is it allows you to grow as a person. It may not completely change who you are, but it can give you a bit more to reflect on! Certainly there will always be room for improvement, no matter what you venture on to do, but you can still guide yourself to what you want to accomplish!
ReplyDeleteWhen you do pick a word for 2015, do please share! I love seeing all the different words people are chosing! One of the blogs I follow, the lady writing it chose "voice" and I think that was fabulous. There are so many different ways to make this project mean something to you!
Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely New Year!
Love your word! Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I hope it serves me well!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you as well, and thanks for stopping by!
Happy New Year and best wishes for 2015! That's a great one word to choose. I'm not sure what I would pick but "happy" has always stuck out to me. There's even a song for it :-)
ReplyDeleteMany best wishes for 2015 for you as well!!
ReplyDelete"Happy" is a lovely word, no matter what the year, season, or whatever! I'm pretty sure "happy" made it onto my -maybe- list, but I have a feeling that working on all of the things I hope to be doing this coming year will bring happiness :)
And, of course and as always, thank you so very much for stopping by :)
Happy New Year! 😘
ReplyDeleteThis was an inspirational post..it made me realize more about myself. I'm the only one that can decide what to do, what goals to accomplish this year. I shouldn't be holding myself back. I should embrace life's struggles and life's happiest moments and keep going. So, thank you for that ♡
Embrace was the perfect word to choose, Jess. I think it will have to be my word for 2015, too.
thank you for such an inspirational post! hope you have a wonderful year!

Happy New Year to you as well!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you understood what I was trying to say! I often feel that while I know what I mean, I'm not always expressing it correctly, so I'm glad this time (of all times!) it worked out, ha!
I'm so glad you love "embrace" as much as I do. There are just so many ways to use it, and so many ways to make it work for you!
Wishing you all the best for 2015, and thank you oh so much for coming by, reading and commenting. :)
