It shows you images from that day in previous years that you can then reshare if you so choose. I'm not sure why they thought this was a good idea - perhaps to make you feel nostalgic? - but I've seen enough people reposting their "memories" that it must be helpful for some.
A couple of days ago, Facebook decided to show me a "memory," which was of our old apartment all decorated for Christmas last year.

One, why did I decorate so early last year? I can only assume that I was excited about Christmas last year - just as I was this year in September and early October.
Two, old apartment, I am so glad we have left you far behind. While we do not have a bar-thing that would be convenient to decorate in this apartment, I really really hated that place.
Three, I guess it's time to start decorating, right?

From last year's spread. But, of course, this is totally going up again this year. |
We don't have a lot to decorate with, and we certainly aren't going to be buying any more decorations this year (because we got a bunch of stuff last year). We have a tiny little fake tree and have no desire (or real space without rearranging) for a real one. Heck, we aren't even very good at wrapping presents for each other to have to open on Christmas, let alone leave wrapped up under a tree to look at until the "correct" time to open them.
Plus, well, I was expecting the "cheer" to show up.
I was excited for Christmas Knitting. And I've got a large chunk of it done - though I did over-schedule myself, and I will not be completing everything (it's not worth it, I promise). And the plans are made and we know where we are going when and that's kind of great. The Christmas cards just need to be written in and put in the mail, which should take less than an afternoon.
But I'm waiting for the...fun part, I guess.
Maybe that's the problem, that it's all taken care of. Because maybe the fun part is getting everything ready.
Or maybe it's not. I'm not sure. We'll see how it goes. Maybe having colored lights up and the Star Wars stocking on the wall will help. Maybe I need to watch Elf
We'll see how it goes.

P.S. You can bet that while we aren't doing the normal Thanksgiving spread that we'll be having pumpkin pie.
P.P.S. If you have a Dutch Bros coffee you can go to, get a Pumpkin Pie Latte. It tastes exactly like pumpkin pie. No I have not had a PSL from Starbucks. Because we drink Dutch Bros. ;)
I love the Facebook On This Day feature because I've always been TERRIBLE at keeping a diary, and now I kinda have one! So I definitely check it out each day.
ReplyDeleteI'm a wait until after Thanksgiving for Christmas kind of gal, but when I saw lights up on someone's house the other day I thought "I'm so not ready for Christmas!" I know I get another week of Thanksgiving stuff first, so I hope I come around next week and get in the right mood to celebrate the whole season.
I tend to forget about photos I've uploaded to Facebook, simply because I do it so infrequently...and anything that does get uploaded is usually screenshots of video game characters I'm playing xD
DeleteBut I do like the concept, and have seen plenty of people share the posts being happy that they showed up in their news feed!
My mom is very much so an after-Thanksgiving kind of gal as well. She used to have a TON of decorations, and it used to be an afternoon's worth of effort decorating for Christmas...to have it up for just over a month - I never understood xD Is a lot of effort for not a lot of payoff. But, then again, once holiday at a time, which is a camp I can get behind!
Thanks so much for stopping by! :D
