It's kind of depressing at just how messy my house is! It's not dirty, per say, just cluttered. And I hate it.
I'm not a hoarder exactly, but I tend to collect. And I collect a lot. I can always justify keeping the stuff. I might want to watch that movie again...I might read those comic books some day...I might need to use sixteen different cleaners at the drop of a hat.
But the truth is, I'm wrong.
I don't need all this. It's junk. I want to have a beautiful home, not a collection of stuff I might want one day. I have so many movies, yet I tend to watch a handful of them over and over to avoid choosing one. I haven't touched that stack of comic books on the big dresser since they came home (which are hand-me-downs from a friend that I thought I would read one day).
All of this stuff is just in the way of living our life!
And it doesn't help that the Mister is the same way, so there's just "collections" everywhere. I'm not even going to consider showing you what our bedroom closet looks like!
However, it just so turns out that the Mister is away on business for the week. He will be in Alaska from today until Friday afternoon.
And with him being gone, I will have the chance to practically tear the house apart and get it back in order. No worrying about when to have dinner, or when he will be home...no worrying about if he'll think I'm a bit off for making such a mess (organizing always involves making a mess for me!), and no worrying about him seeing it until its done!
So, I declare that this is Home Week.
The goal, is that come Friday afternoon, I will be able to take those three pictures again, and they will be less crazy looking.
These are all the main ares I have to be working on - not so far as we see them the most, but that they need the most help.
This note is in the very front of my planner, right in my face, to remind me of what I need to be doing.
So far today, I've already cleaned up the kitchen, as per my cleaning schedule (which is working out great!), and next to do is start clearing stuff out! Luckily there are plenty of Goodwill drop-offs by my house!
What about you guys - do you have struggles with "justifiable" clutter? Any amazing organizing tips to share? I'm all for suggestions!

I love your blog, thank you for sharing. I am in the same situation at the moment, and been trying some of the Flylady tips, such as breaking it down to small sections. Don't try to do a whole room at once, as it can be too intimidating and then you never start, but do a cupboard, or a corner, at a time. You can see the progress and feel inspired to keep going then! Also I love my timer - you can do anything for 15 minutes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, glad to hear you like it!! Oh you've just made my day :)
ReplyDeleteI've tried Flylady before, actually, and it just seems very micromanaged. Yes, there's a lot of help involved, but our apartment is so tiny and simple, its too much for my home.
But I *entirely* agree that even if you start small, the progress will inspire you to continue!
