Yes. I've been misplacing my time. In large amounts.
I would get to the end of the day, think back on what I had done, and realized that well x, y, and z were accomplished, but what about from point a to point b? What did I do then?
And I couldn't remember!
I knew I wasn't ill, and I knew I wasn't napping, I was just doing who-knows-what for who-knows-how-long.
So, last Wednesday I sought out to keep track of everything I did for a day. To try to see where my time was actually going, be it for good or evil.
The crazy part is, I didn't even sleep the night before. I was watching Netflix, and figured it was too late/early/late to go to bed, so might as well get going!
Please excuse my messy handwriting, as I was trying to keep track of everything, yet not lose any time doing so.
What I realized, though, was that being aware of how my time was being used made me use it better. Isn't that crazy. Yeah, I took breaks throughout the day, but only for a few minutes. I knew that my time was being audited, and I knew that I would have to answer for what I was doing. I checked my social media pages, sure, but did so as quick as I could, to then get back to whatever it was that I needed to be working on.
And I realize, all of my missing time, is going towards random wasteful things. Pinterest for hours, or Instagram for way too long, or Facebook refreshing (Have you noticed that when you want there to be new posts on social media, there are none, and then when you're away for a while and can't check, there's a million?). Watching TV or looking at the news, even though it really only updates once a day.
Apparently, I'm a horrible time waster!
Heck, I even did the same thing today. I woke up at 8 am, with my alarm, but it was so cold! And bed wasn't very warm, but I knew if I curled up just enough I would be safe. And my phone has entertainment on it. The husband wasn't getting up yet. I didn't need to be up yet!
And because of all that, I didn't get out of bed until 11:15 am. I have things to do today! But staying in bed, looking at Instagram was way more important.
Yeah, I was wrong.
I know I won't always have good days, where everything is done by 1:30, or where I even have the desire to accomplish things.
But it is fantastic to know I have the ability. And it is great to have something to reach for on a regular basis, even when I have days like today, that start out behind.
What about you? Do you have time-sink issues? What do you do in your lost hours? And how have you managed to get over it?

I have been thinking about doing this but am afraid to! I know I have time management issues, most likely with wandering around not knowing what to do next (organizational problems), whining over things I don't want to do, and of course the ultimate time hog - the television! Ok, I'm going to do this! You inspired me to do this!
ReplyDeleteI knew what I had to get done for the day, so I think that was helpful. I try and write down a to-do list for every day, even if I don't get everything done, just so there are options of things to be working on. I know that if I don't tell myself to get things done, I certainly won't!
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck! It was actually fun (and exciting!) to see just how quickly everything got done once I put forth the effort - which left plenty of room in the evening for slacking, ha!
Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it! :)
