Project Life

Or, what are all these little cards for, anyway?

If you've been following me on Instagram (shameless plug), you may have seen a few pictures feature Project Life products. I have been eyeing the journaling cards, the layouts, the books - basically everything - thanks to Instagram. The cards are beautiful, the scrapbooking looks easy, and it takes fewer pictures than the regular scrapbook does.

Which is good, because we are not good picture-takers.

For one, we don't do much that is, in a normal sense, picture worthy. We do the same stuff every day during the week, and every weekend. When we do have an outing of sorts, either we forget to take pictures, or there's only a few, or never any of us, etc. I have no idea how I've managed to end up with so many pictures on Instagram because of our being this way - but it's probably because my Instagram is full of actual stuff and not activities. And the photo challenges - those help!

For two, what pictures we do take are saved to Dropbox, so we will have them forever. They're in the cloud, we can access them whenever we want. We know what was happening when, because everything is dated and organized as such, so we know that "oh yeah, obviously, these pictures are from when we went out shooting with your cousin", or "yeah, those are from your Alaska trip two years ago, not the recent trip".

For thirds...I actually don't have a third point, but I feel like there should be more, because we've been together for long enough that we should have so many more pictures than we do!

Either way, we aren't picture people. We have one good picture of us together. And it was taken in the summer/early fall of 2012. By the Mister, on his phone.

So, a few weeks ago, we were at Michael's for one thing or another, and I stood in front of the Project Life section a little too long (which is always what I do when I really want something - I can't help it!), and the Mister kindly asked if I wanted this stuff for Christmas.
Of course I said yes.

This is what I came home with (and yes, this picture has been on Instagram already). The kit is the Maggie Holmes Edition, and the binder is 6x8. I got two different kinds of pocket pages as well, but so far have only used the ones with the 4x6 on the bottom and 2-3x4 pockets on the top - apparently there are letters that go along with the page types, but I haven't learned them yet, and the packaging for them is long gone.

A week later, we were at Michael's again, because I needed photos-stickies, and again lingered in the Project Life section, only to come home with the Favorite Things Edition - again, for Christmas. Both weeks, everything was on sale, so we really only paid for a kit and half an album, when you do the math!

I can see this turning into a very spendy hobby, so this is going to have to be the end of kit-acquiring for me, but so far everything is working out quite well with what I have. I haven't done too many pages, and still aren't too great at remembering to take pictures, but it's a work in progress.

This is the one picture of us both - this is my Cover Page.

Some of the Mister's "Manly Things"

I apologize for the bad quality of these images - fall is not good for picture-taking in Oregon, especially when a reflective surface is involved!

I am quite fond of this system, though. You only need a few elements to have a whole page. Not everything is required to match, and from what I've seen around the internet, anything goes!

I'm looking forward to keeping on this project, so long as we can remember to take pictures!

Do you scrapbook at all? How do you manage to get enough pictures to turn into an album?!

P.S. I use Snapfish to print my photos. We don't have a fancy printer that can do photos, so I would either have to do them in store, or send away for them. I use the Snapfish app, which allowed me 100 prints free, each month, for a year, all I have to pay is shipping (and it's cheaper than printing them in the stores!).

  1. Looks very nice! I work on mine monthly. I do one page per week, because I do not have enough to do a 2 page spread. I use the 12x12. Some of my friends and I have a Project Life club and it helps me to stay on track. Check out my blog to see my album!

  2. You have a club for it?! That sounds amazing! I've had scrapbook days with my mom in the past, but we tend to get distracted, and not get much done, ha. Though with this set up, everything is so portable, it might be time to schedule another scrapbook date!
    Thanks for stopping by!

  3. You two look cute together! I didn't know about this Project Life stuff until recently. I can imagine the cost going up especially having to print out photos on a near daily basis and decorating. You'll also start hoarding all sorts of scrapbooking supplies, which can be fun :-) I had a look at my friend's PL scrapbook just a couple of days ago. Hers is 12x12 and is quite big. But it's so pretty and she did so many creative things to her pages. I think it's a wonderful way to store memories.

  4. Thanks!
Oh no, I can't print photos that often, too many trips to the store! I use Snapfish on a monthly basis, and get them delivered to my house! I'm already a supply hoarder, though, just with the cards coming in their own boxes, it's like built in organization!!
It really is a fun way to do memory keeping, as there are so many things you can do with all the little pockets - I've seen lots around the internet filled with glitter or sequins or such and then sewed shut!
