Why "Havok"?

So, I figure it's time to explain a bit.

My name is Jessica. And, on the internet, I prefer to go by Havok.

When I was 16, a friend and I were making new Hotmail email accounts (as that is what teenagers do), and I made mine to be creatinghavok247@hotmail.com (please don't email that, as it is no longer mine...I think!). I asked my friend (who was a fantastic spell-er) if "havok" was correct, or it if needed a 'c'. She said 'k' was correct, and I didn't find out until a year or so later that she was wrong!
I had a blog at that point (as that is what teenagers do) using that as my screen name and someone commented, and used just the "havok" bit to address me. This person became one of my best friends, actually, as did a few of his own friends. I was Havok, and then there was Celery, Carrots, and Moose - it just fit.
And I've been using it ever since.

I don't even remember why I decided in the first place that it would be alright, but the only thing I can imagine it would be is that I was an angsty teenager that never got into any trouble.

Now, I'm an adult, and not angsty (much), but I feel the name still fits.

To me, "Havok" is more so the way I am. For example, you're familiar with all the figures on my desk...I've got Batman, Adventure Time, Pokemon, Star Wars, LEGO, Space Marines, Pac-Man, and the Hobbit figures...and that's just one shelf in one spot of my house! Directly underneath this mess of toys, I've got my washi and sticker collections!

My personality throws me all over the place with so many different things.
I collect Magic: The Gathering cards and washi tape; D&D handbooks and yarn; Video games and cleaning supplies. I like enough different things to need a geek room and a craft room each.
I'm messy and frazzled, yet very particular about some things. The kitchen can be filthy, and I'm alright with that, but my keys need to be on my desk or in my purse at all times. I have to make sure the windshield wipers and lights are off, as well as the truck being in parked, stereo turned down, and windows up, before I can turn the truck off, but I can work with my desk being covered in pens and notes and bits of paper.

At this point in my life, its habit to use this name. But I do love it, and I will continue using it as long as I can.
I love it, and it suits me. I wouldn't have it any other way.

But, if you so choose, you can call me Jessica, or Jess, or "hey you, over there". I will answer either way. :)

~Havok

P.S. How did your internet "name" come about?

  1. I like the name Havok! I think use whatever you feel most comfortable with as your online moniker :-) Lyn is actually my middle name. It's not fussy and easy to remember so I've stuck to using it.

  2. Thanks!
Growing up, it was never ok to put your real name on the internet...and now, most people have their name everywhere. I'm still stuck halfway between being alright with my real name everywhere and choosing to use a nickname. But, as I've found something I enjoy using, I'll keep doing both. :)

  3. Havok sounds pretty cool, I guess I'll call you Jess on instagram and Havok on here, if that's okay ♡
MJ is just my initials, but ever since I was younger I always received those "never put your real name on the Internet otherwise people will find your address and kidnap you" lectures from my parents, ha ha, so I went by M, MJ, and Ruby (my favorite kind of stone at the time).
I think whatever name suits you is fine! Besides, blogging is nessesarily about the name, it's about the content, too--and you have great content AND a great nickname! ♡

  4. Like I said in the post, call me whatever you like! The only person who will only call me Jessica is my mom - she has a thing against Jess for some reason, ha!

My parents gave me those lectures, too!! I was fine with using my first name, but it wasn't until Facebook came along that my last name made it onto anything other than website registration forms (emails and whatnot).

Thanks so much, that's so very nice of you to say! And of course, thanks for stopping by!!
