I made a horrible, horrible mistake.
I thought I could manage, and boy, was I wrong.
The worst of it is, I was trying to fix something that wasn't even broken! There was no reason for me to go and muck things up, no need for me to play around with options.
But I did it anyway.
And, hopefully, never again. Hopefully, I've learned my lesson!
So, what was this horrible mistake?
Simple. I thought I could manage using week on 2 page inserts in Mr. Finsbury.
My daily pages were working fine and I had no need to change anything, I just wanted to try something new. I even spent a chunk of time drafting up a vertical, lined, black/grey layout to use, instead of just using the ones that came in my planner.
I thought it was brilliant.
I thought it would work.
And it was horrendous.
That week, I don't know how I managed to get anything done. I hated looking at these things. Too many colors, too many scribbles, and too much...bleh. Just too much! The lines helped a bit, so far as writing straight and all that nonsense, but it was too much going on all at once.
I don't process things well mentally if I'm being bombarded by stuff. A week on 2 page layout bombards me with information that I don't need all at once.
It was a bad week, guys. A very bad week.
But no, I wasn't done torturing myself just yet.
So, I tried the ones that came in my Filofax the next week. Because I'm a glutton for punishment? Actually, because I feel bad not using them. But now, I don’t have to feel bad any more - since I know they won't work for me, no matter how hard I try.
I got through one day and just couldn't take it any more. I can't write straight, or the same size throughout. There's no sections for anything.
It was messy. Messy is meant for my hair or blankets - not planners!
I'm back in my daily pages now. I love them. I am so much happier. I am not overwhelmed looking at the days. And with my page marker being a 2x3 Project Life card, I can really only see one day at a time - no brain overload! It's beautiful. This works for me. Each day may not be filled to the brim, and that's okay.
Paper is cheap. My productivity is not as easy to come by!
But, because there is a new style of insert that I have, I thought I would share. I actually like these pages. I do. I just can't use them.
I know I've spent this whole post bashing them, but they're here for you if you want to give it a go!
The PDF file can be found here. They are intended to be printed on letter sized paper, and the margins line up the same as the daily pages do (print front to back, and the left and right page margins are where you punch the holes).
And as with all my printables - please be aware that I am offering these to you for personal use. Even though they don't have my name on them - I don't want to stare at my name when I'm using my pages, and I doubt you want to either - please respect that they are my own creation.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who has "brilliant ideas" that turn out to be junk!

Oh dear! I thought about changing my page layout, I'm so glad I didn't in the end! If it isn't broke...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your printable -

You are indeed correct - don't mess with a good thing, ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of glad I made them, though, just to be able to say that I *know* it's not going to work - no more wondering!
Thanks for stopping by! :)
I've been combining everything into one planner since last week but it's messy. So I will definitely go back to using a two-planner combo. I still like WO2P because I like having a full week's view at a glance. I don't think I do very well with DO1P as I have to keep flipping back and forth to view what's upcoming.
ReplyDeleteI think I manage so well with a daily page and not having a week to look at because the same things happen every week, and its all so little. Groceries is at the end, the Mister is on call on Thursdays, Friday and Saturday are to be left almost entirely open for plans, and that's about it, so far as planing for the week as a whole goes.
ReplyDeleteBasically, what it ia mounts to, is I live a boring life that involves home-type tasks, so as long as I know what date it is, I'm alright with just a list of stuff xD
But I entirely understand - it would be a lot of flipping around to see when to be where and things like that.
I do like the idea of having a weekly page, to see what's going on overall, but I just don't know what I would put on it, other than the same thing over and over again! :D
And of course, thank you for stopping by :)
