It was awesome.
And then I had to clean the old apartment. There was a lot of bleach and gunk involved. And my cloths were made of cotton.
Now, I've never washed anything after it's been bleached. But, from what I understand, it's not pretty.
I couldn't bear it (nor did I want all that gunk in my washing machine in the first place!).
So they got chucked.
I had a moment of sadness putting each one in the trash after they got the ick.
But I also realized something awesome.
I could start a new collection.
Which is awesome, considering the ones I had were getting rather rugged in the first place. It is also awesome because I have this rather large collection of variegated cotton yarn that needs to be used for something, and what better than this?
And, while I'm at it, I can make more of the Swiffer variety as well! Because why not?
I use the Sugar N Cream yarn and it comes in so many colors - all of the ones I have are bright, for the most part. And each skein makes up one wash rag. It's perfect. Plus, they don't take very long (instant gratification, for the win!).
I use a few different patterns, none of which are fancy. But they use up the yarn properly, and they have a bit of texture to them, and that is all that matters.

And this link will take you to many, many more (on the Lily website), though these are my go-to's.
Yes, they shrink after washing. And yes, they will fade and won't lie flat for too long. They are fairly soft. They are reusable. And my, can they be colorful.

P.S. The blue concoction in the spray bottle is magic - equal parts vinegar and dish soap (I buy Dawn from the Dollar Tree, as every recipe I've seen for this stuff calls for Dawn, and as I don't go through it that quickly, the Dollar Tree size works just fine for me). It works wonders for just about every surface in my home, and while the smell of vinegar isn't amazing, I'm willing to deal with it - and do most of the cleaning while the Mister is out of the house, as he cannot stand it.

Those look amazing, I must try some of those patterns. I am trying to get back into crochet and knitting, as my daughter and son want me to teach them how to do both. These look like great starter patterns, and what a bonus being able to use them round the house! I remember your Swiffer design, really clever. How are you doing with the exercising? I have rather failed at that this week, so am going to do better next week (say I optimistically...).
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! They really are great starter patterns - that are also super useful! Basic stitches, just a matter of counting up to three and/or six for them. The trickiest of the bunch is the waves one, and that one is just a matter of getting the hang of it (which always takes me two or three rows, even though I've done it more than a few times!). The "lacy" one has the trickiest stitch - the drop double crochet, or whatever you call it, but it's not hard, just a matter of learning how to do it (the wording is a bit weird, but once figuring out what it all means, is easy!).
DeleteThe exercising is...well, I took a break over the weekend, ha. And this morning, as I woke up late (from having a break over the weekend, as things tend to go). But, I have high hopes! There is nothing wrong with saying next week is going to be better - there's no reason to not start each day as a new try - or else I would always be discouraged, ha!
Thank you so much for stopping by! :D
I love love love homemade dishcloths. I knit mine, because I don't crochet, and have been on a bit of a binge lately. I love that I can use pretty stitch patterns. I also love that they knit up really fast, and I can keep a stash for presents :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by! I've tried knitting before and did *alright*, but I'm not so good with tension, ha!
DeleteI am planning on making a stash for presents this year, as well as restocking my own supply, ha! :D
