Yeah, it's Monday. And no, we are not done moving.
Since we aren't going so far, we thought it would be alright to go without getting a U-Haul. Which, technically, is a fine decision, but it would have made life so much easier to have one!
We've made multiple trips already, and have about three left (the last one being rather small, if things work out).
And then, that doesn't include going back and cleaning the old apartment. *Sigh*...I'm not looking forward to that!
I would have much rather been more prepared.
Yes, lots of stuff was packed already, but not nearly enough. It's been a lot of scrambling and stuffing things in boxes and looking around tiredly trying to figure out what is more important out of what is left to take.
It's been stressful. There have been sharp words, I will not lie. There has been lots of sweat, blood, but luckily no tears. Blood on the Mister's part, as he seems to be prone to random cuts the past few days - nothing more than a bad paper cut, though!
I posted this picture on Friday on Facebook and Instagram, and as we actually brought all the clothes Sunday, I can attest that this actually worked out. Would have been better if I hadn't of used cheap garbage bags, but my goodness, it will be SO much easier to put things in the closet! Which, no, we haven't done yet (we have two closets in the apartment, and haven't figured out which belongs to who...because why not each have one?!).
This was our living room Friday afternoon, before starting to load up the truck for the first trip - and of course we moved our desks and computers first!
This doesn't show the space well, but it was a matter of only having walkways to get around. What it does show is just how...mismanaged we are going about this.
We do, however, have an almost completely moved kitchen, 100% moved bathroom, and 100% moved office (as we have an office now - score!).
What's left is some dishes, movies and books, fish tanks, the coffee table, my filing cabinet, and some other random bits and bobs.
Progress is being made. Things are also being unpacked.
We started Friday, and we slept in the new apartment Friday night, with our bed and our regular bedding. We've been able to shower in the new apartment, and would have been able to cook, had we been a bit better at planning all this out...except our fridge and freezer aren't working right (and need to get that taken care of as soon as possible this morning!), so that kind of takes away from being able to cook, but at this point we have everything we need!
But we are tired. We are stressed. There's still a lot to do (so far as cleaning the old place) and it needs to be done sooner than later.
However, it's getting done. And we haven't killed each other yet.
So I think that's a win.

P.S. Want a bit of a laugh? I have one for you.
Brilliant me had the idea of wearing a tank top Friday, as it would be hot and miserable work, and tank tops are, well, less fabric. Though, silly me, didn't think of the amount of time I would be outside.
Yeahhhhh...burnt to a crisp.
Lucky me, as I wasn't out in the constant sun, it faded overnight for the most part. I've got a bit more tinge of pink on my shoulders than normal, but it'll be gone in another day or two!
So, ladies and gentlemen, always wear sunscreen. And if you know of one that doesn't smell of, well, sunscreen, let me know - as that's the only way you'll get me to wear any!
Oh, you have had quite the move haven't you. We are still in the middle of our move. Out of the house, in hotels for four nights and now in our new town. We are in a furnished rental for 30 days. And...it's not so clean and doesn't have quite everything we need to cook, but we're making it work and I'm sure each day will get better. As it will for you as well.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you have had just as much of an adventure as we have had, if not more so! I agree entirely, though, that you just have to make ends do and each day will get better. Putter on, eventually it will be worth it. So far it is, actually! :D
DeleteThank you so much for stopping by, and I wish you well in both your rental house and your new house!
Ouch that looked sore! Hope you are feeling better now and that the end is in sight! Very good point about getting the best quality bin bags - by the time you have picked up what spilled over the ground and usually put it in another bag or two to stop that happening again you will have spent more than you had saved getting the cheaper ones...
ReplyDeleteActually, is about 90% gone at this point - for which I am very glad.
DeleteThis is very true about the garbage bags. I tend to not fill them up all the way, so they don't get too heavy, but that just ends up using more bags as well...there really is no good way around it, I'm just not happy spending 10$ on something I'm just going to throw away, ha!
Today starts the beginning of cleaning up the old place, and hopefully it too will be done quickly!
Thank you for stopping by! I always love to read your comments! :D
