Crocheted Bath Mat [or, how not to have a matching bathroom]

Crocheted Bath Mat [or, how not to have a matching bathroom] | Anxiously Being Havok

Do bathrooms really need to have a "theme"?
Because I'm pretty sure that's weird.
I've seen themed bathrooms before (in real life, even!) and yes, it's nice, but how much time are you really spending in there to need everything to match?

...that's my primer and excuse for why my bathroom doesn't match. Because it doesn't. And I love it.

You see, we were bathmat-less. We have been for months and months. It's the dogs' fault, as the little one took to tearing the one we had up. We keep the dogs in the bathroom with us while we are showering (because they will tear up the house if left to their own devices), and so after too many showers, the bathmat we had ended up with a decent sized hole in the corner. How he managed to claw his way through the rubber-ish backing, I have no idea. Nor any idea where it all went, because there was never enough mess on the floor to account for the amount of space he took out of the mat - pretty sure he ate it. Smart dog, yeah?

Being as we were bathmat-less, we were just using a towel on the floor, and switch it out every few days, and it was working fine. Other than we were going through towels too fast. And who wants to do laundry any more than they have to?

So I made one.
Well, crocheted one.

Except I'm fairly certain I ended up increasing it as it went along, because it's a bit wonky. But it's also been washed, and I know that coming out of the wash tends to change the size and shape of things, so I'm going to blame that and not my skill. Heh.

And yes, it does not match what else we have in the bathroom. And I do not care.
Because the floor is "wood" and the shower curtain is mountains and trees. And the bathmat itself is beachy.

Though, technically, I could say it's Oregon, because there is beach and there are mountains, and they are fairly close to each other.
I'm going to go with that reasoning - how 'bout it?

And yes, it's boring. It's just the double crochet stitch all the way up. It was pretty brainless work. Though it did allow me to work on it and watch movies or YouTube videos at the same time, which is always nice.
And no, I didn't weave the ends in. I am horrible at it, for one, and it always comes out no matter what anyway. So I gave up on that a long time ago.

The yarn is actually Michael's brand yarn - it is the Loops & Threads Cotton Club 100% cotton, and the color is "Seaside". Except they no longer make that yarn. I've had four skeins of it for, oh, a good solid three or four years, I would say (just to give you a hint of the size of my yarn stash). And, as they were smaller skeins (2.8 oz each), I got through almost four skeins.
Somehow, buying yarn without an idea of what to use it for has turned out okay this go around - but I do not recommend it (think of the size of my yarn stash *insert exasperated face here*).
Either way, the yarn itself is fairly soft - right out of the dryer it was amazing. After a bit of use, it's not so soft, but I'm thinking that after another wash it will go back to that soft state.

It's working well - it does the job, at least, and that's all I'm asking of it. Plus, it gives the dogs somewhere not-as-cold sit while we are showering, which they enjoy.
Funny aside: the dogs actually like the bathroom somehow, and will follow us in any chance they can get. And as the floor is slick, the little dog hasn't quite learned yet that running full boar will make him slip about. Even more so if he starts on the bathmat. And as he likes to run, it is quite comical to see him sliding about so much. So even more success - free entertainment is always welcome!
