PSA: The Internets and Secret Codes

Friendly reminder: CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS.

PSA: The Internets and Secret Codes | Anxiously Being Havok

No, but seriously.
When was the last time you changed a password?
Also, changing it because you forgot it does not count.

I'm horrible at this.

I use the same passwords across the board, and rely on Google to remember them for me.
I normally have one password a "year", and if one needs to be changed, I'll just use an older year's password. Which, basically means, I have four or five passwords "at the ready" to be used around the internet.

That's not really the best way, eh?
So I fixed it, as one should.

My passwords are changed. They are not the same across the board any more. They are written down in a safe place, and Google knows them as well (because, honestly, Google knows everything).
No, I cannot remember them. But that's okay. They are too complicated to try and remember - that's the point.

The Internet is a lovely place. But, as any place (Internet or otherwise), it is full of good and bad. And if you've hung out long enough, you'll be aware at how easily, it appears, websites and information can be taken from places you think ought to be secure.
While the only way to prevent that from happening is to just not give your information to anyone or anything (which is difficult, in this day and age), the next best thing is to make it ridiculous to get to.

Plus, going through all those accounts gives you a great chance to think about which ones you really need to be keeping, versus ones that aren't important.

Passwords are awesome. Don't let 'em get stale.

P.S. No, so far as I know, nothing has been "hacked." I just scheduled in some maintenance the other day for my accounts, and thought it would be good to share with you - because it really is important.
