Lately, I've fallen in love with the Erin Condren and Happy Planner
There's so much room for stickers and washi and scribbles (of the pretty variety, of course) and all sorts of wonderful things that there just isn't room for in a Personal size (or Field Notes size, for that matter, which I've been using up until quite recently).
I do not have an Erin Condren, because I know I cannot commit to using a planner for a whole year, let alone a planner of that size. The cost is not reasonable enough to be willing to try it, really (along with the quality control concerns that arose from their release earlier this year of the rose gold planners).
I do not have a Happy Planner because, well, I could not find one. They are not at JoAnn's, and my local Michael's did not seem to have them, and it really wasn't worth it to me to go searching for one (though I did find them at a Craft Warehouse where I used to live, but wasn't sold on the idea at that point).
What I have done instead is simple.
I made my own.
Because, uh, computers let you do that. This is the magic of technology and open source programs, is that they are within the reach of anyone (as in Libre Office, which I highly recommend to everyone and anyone needing a complete office suite).
The pages are very much so derived from the Erin Condren and Happy Planner layouts. But, with a twist. One I am particularly fond of, if you don't mind me saying. Enough different to be unique, but not enough of a difference to not mention the inspirations from them.
I've had four iterations, if you will, of these already, before settling on this design, and have played with the size a bit on paper and it's quite fabulous. I've also got ideas for a few other pages that would be in this size, to compliment each other (if you will), just haven't gotten to it yet.
I have intentions of investing (so to speak) in the Levenger Punch
to create my own discbound system out of these inserts for various purposes - mostly pretty ones involving note taking and such. The space is more than ample for both prettiness and functionality, without the extra gobble-de-gook that both the Erin Condren and Happy Planner have.
The pages are of a similar size 7 inches wide by 9 inches tall, and with a half inch margin on the sides to be able to accommodate a discbound set up.
The grid lines is a basic requirement for my own needs - I cannot write straight without lines, but just lined paper is a tad boring after learning the joys of working with grid (joys indeed, honestly!).
If you want to download a copy of these for yourself, please feel free to do so here. As always, please feel free to use and play with them however you like, but do not claim them as your own (and, if you would like to share with others, please send them here). They are set up on 8.5x11in paper, ready to print.
While the size isn't something I could see myself taking anywhere (other than about the house), it certainly is fun to play in!
