Piles and Piles and Running in Circles

Why is it so easy to let things pile up?
My desk is in a sorry state. Oh, I cleared it (mostly) off a few days ago, but it's already back to a state of frenzy (with more random goods and products). Which means I'm working on multiple things - which is true, and good. But it also means that said work requires the shuffling of stuff about to be actually able to do anything.

Piles and Piles and Running in Circles | Anxiously Being Havok

That, my friends, is my problem.
It always has been.
I like to pile my things around me - so it is easier to keep track of it all. My journals are kept close at hand, as well as my knitting, my planner, my pens, and whatever else may be suitable for the day.

My desk space is small. All of this stuff on it is not conducive to actually getting anything done.
And I know this.
So why is it all still here?
Because, well, it's easy. It's what I'm used to. But it's also a bit lazy and stupid.

Which is a huge conundrum.

The silly thing is I've a set of drawers next to my desk to put things in, and a tote serving as a table on the other side. Things could easily be sorted there. Except it's not. Because the drawers are full of other things I want close at hand, as well as the tote-top!

Basically, I'm a messy person who does not do well with so much around and it's all sorts of ridiculous.
The idea is that at some point, I will change my ways and have an organized and cleared off work space. But we both know this is just not the case. Things like this do not just "happen" which is quite a sorry thing - because, if they did, it would make life so much easier!
However, it can be fixed. It shall be fixed. It just needs a swift kick in the rear (read: I need a swift kick in the rear).
Today is clearing off day. And this afternoon is clearing off day. Tomorrow morning is clearing off day, as well as midday and evening. That is what it is going to amount to.
While I don't enjoy that idea, if it works, that's all that matters.

I've heard that the key to keeping a tidy house is doing a little each day - having time at least once a day to set things straight and pick up. Shuffling piles is not the same as picking up - no matter how much easier it may be.

How do you keep your desks and work spaces clear and tidy? Any suggestions are most welcome!

  1. I have two desks...and a lot of book shelves :-) I use one as a computer desk, and one as my "planner" table - which holds my erin condren life planner for my personal stuff, one for my blog/youtube stuff, and a homeschool planner...plus numerous notebooks and journals. It is definitely a lot and hard to keep organized. I recently picked up some little magazine holders in the dollar spot at target, and those are helping me keep things at hand, but also organized.

    1. Two desks?! Oh I would be in heaven! A magazine holder would actually work out well - journals and those kinds of notebooks could be easily kept close at hand, yet corralled...which is my kind of organized!
Thanks so much for stopping by! :D
