Vacuuming [the floors thank me]

Today I learned it takes only twenty minutes to vacuum my whole house.
Twenty minutes. That is including picking up dog toys from about the place so they don't get in the way or vacuumed up.

And while that doesn't include any detailed vacuuming, or the moving of furniture or shelves or whatnots, the carpet is fluffy again and without (as much) dog hair.
That counts as a success, right?

This is something I'm battling with.
Time and how long things actually take.
Because it really isn't that long, and the work is, in the end, worth it.

My vacuum is the kind that requires one to be hunched over to use. And I always end up needing a good sit after using it. And that is mostly a good enough reason to skip it more often than not (read: good enough for me).
But, twenty minutes. I can manage twenty minutes. Especially since the twinge of pains and ouches that come from it normally don't start showing up until I'm in the back of the house and just about done.

The battle of the dog hair is futile. While it doesn't seem like our dogs shed that much, the amount of hair that accumulates in a week is ridiculous. But the little guys are so cute, I am willing to deal with it. The advantage of keeping on top of the vacuuming, though, is that I can get through the whole house without having to empty the canister before I'm done.
When I don't keep up with it that's not the case, and it's just a pain the rear - especially since that means I have to vacuum around the garbage can again, to get up the dusty bits and hair bits that fluffed out from emptying the canister.

Our carpet is almost like yarn - which, to me, is funny, considering just how much yarn we have in the house else-wise! But, because of that, it shows wear a lot. It gets flattened and squished down, and easily shows where a lot of traffic has been. Vacuuming gives it new life, and pulls it back up and makes it soft and fluffy again - and also makes it look less sad.
And since the carpets were new when we moved in, they are a huge improvement over the carpets in our last apartment and are actually worth laying on, keeping them as fluffy as possible is really worth the effort.

Twenty minutes is all the effort all that takes. I'm pretty sure that's a decent amount of time and work. And it means I can sprawl on the floor, which is always nice - the dogs like it too.

  1. It does usually take less time to do something than it takes to think about it and decide not to do it now, then worry about it then put it off again - or is this just me? I have a roomba (little robot hoover) that zooms around the floor for me. You have to pick up first of course, but I have such a better back for having it, it saves a lot of aches, pains, and deciding not to do it now because I feel bad already...

    1. No, not just you at all - because I end up thinking about it and going back and forth about it multiple times (usually at least three or four!) before I normally would get around to something like that!
I would love to have a Roomba! Though I feel it wouldn't be any more efficient (and I would forget it was on and it would get stuck under the couch or something silly like that I'm sure) - though I do believe it would be entertainment for the dogs! I do like the lack of actually having to go through with vacuuming, though, that would save me quite a bit of ache (which is always nice).
Thanks so much for stopping by! :)
