The Ducks

The past week, my life has been consumed by ducks.
Okay, only two ducks.
But, all consuming.

Because there is a lady duck and a dude duck who have taken to our back yardish area to hang out. There's a small lake/pond nest to our apartment complex, and while we aren't right next to it (in our apartment) we're close enough (I'm guessing) for them to like our back area. It's the quietest area of the apartment complex, and while we have dogs (and all of our neighbors have dogs) we're all pretty decent at not letting them bark too much and when they do we shut them up.
Maybe they've spent previous Springs over here, we don't know.
But I'm very glad that they are here.

It's so exciting when they show up each day. The past few days it has just been the lady duck, but then the dude duck finally showed back up, yay! And now, today, the lady duck is back by herself, and we're sad again.

They just hang out, wander around, lay down and get cozy.

At first, we weren't going to feed them, because we didn't want to make them stay if they didn't want to. But since they've been back so often, we're feeding them. Because, uh, well, cute ducks.
I'm sure it's not the smartest idea, but one of our other neighbors started it!
We've also got some water out for them, and there is also rain water collected in a planting pot on our neighbors' porch that they can drink from.
There's shade out there at all times of day, so there's always somewhere for them to sit - as it's been sunny out most days and very warm in the sun.

They're nice enough, and we can get within ten feet of them, even though they do keep an eye on us if we're outside - and I don't blame them for that! There's not a whole lot that goes on out there, other than we and a few of our neighbors let our dogs out (on leashes) and they (the ducks) kind of scuttle off but don't leave...and then come back to get cozy once the dogs are in.

It's so exciting when they show up!
And I want them to continue showing up. One, because it's fun to see them. Two, because maybe they'll hang out more often if they're let alone to do so. Three, maybe they'll have ducklings!

And who doesn't want ducklings in their back yard?!
Actually, I don't know. But they'll be adorable and it would be great.

And that's the most exciting part of my week.
What's yours? :)

    1. I would love to have a backyard and a pond for ducks to hang out with! And I'm so glad it's not geese like where we lived on the other side of town - a small pond, but only a giant collection of geese every year. Not nearly as much fun as ducks xD
Just a few minutes ago, the male duck showed up after being away all day and almost ran past my back door, quackin' all along the way. It's so fun to have them hanging out :D
Thank you so much for stopping by! :D
