I knew it was coming, the numbers of the day were getting higher and higher, and I knew April was coming and then BAM, it's April. I missed being aware of April being the next day on the 31st of March, and now it's the 4th.
Time is weird, y'all.
Also, hope none of you fell for any April Fool's tricks.
I'm always a fan of what Google does for April Fool's - I'd be interested to see how much money and time they put into it, for something that only stays live and relevent for a day. But, I mean, it's Google, so they can do whatever they want (and, mostly, it's good).
Either way, onto what we ate in March.
If you want to see what we've eaten in January and February, you are more than welcome to do so - just bear in mind we tend to eat a lot of the same. One, because we're creatures of habit. Two, because I'm a lazy cook. And three, because most new recipes would require me buying multiple extra ingredients, most of which don't go on sale, so I've not bought them!
From the beginning, with meals being grouped by week.
Nachos - tortilla chips, plus chili with cheese and cream cheese melted in. This is a staple.
Grilled Cheese + Tomato Soup - I highly recommend adding cream cheese along with cheese in the sandwiches. It adds just a little extra deliciousness.
Chili Cheese Tator Tot Bake - for when you want something that you don't even have to stir and can just throw in the oven.
Carl's Jr - because hamburgers.
Enchamac - this is actually a really handy meal, since we can never use a whole can of enchilada sauce for just one meal, so the leftover sauce can be used for macaroni and not go to waste.
Sushi - the kind from the grocery store.
Nothing - okay, well, really snacks, but more like we didn't really have dinner, just had some chips and went to bed early. Not the best choice of meal, but sometimes it's what works.
Spaghetti - I've still not mastered the measurements of noodles, but I almost always make up extra which leads to...
Leftover Spaghetti - not always 100% the right amount. So, when you're a tad shy on actual spaghetti for leftovers, just add garlic bread. And by garlic bread I mean toast with butter and garlic powder. Keepin' it classy.
Burritos - the boring regular kind, with refried beans and ground meat.
Grilled Cheese - no soup this time as I was out and it hadn't been on sale to buy more.
Hummus + Sushi - again, the grocery store variety
Top Romen + Kielbasa Sausage - this was a "hey, let's try" kind of meals and it was actually delicious. Though it was a tad too spicy, since I added Tapatio as well. But something we will eat again.
Corn Dogs - they were on sale, I bought them, and we ate them. As you do.
KFC - it's never as good as it seems it will be when the hankering for fried chicken crops up (which isn't very often, honestly).
Nachos - at least every other week, as you will see (or have seen).
Mexican Rice Burritos - as first mentioned in January, and something that has luckily been added to the rotation. Granted, it requires the purchase of Rotel and rice instead of just refried beans, but rice is decently cheap, and Rotel is about 1$ a can, so it's not too bad.
Chilimac - there have been a ton of sales on chili lately, and I have been making good use of it.
Safeway Cake - I admit, we ate cake for dinner. They sell slices of cake. The Mister went to the store with me asking for carrot cake, and then came back with a cheesecake slice for himself. Lucky for me, he couldn't finish his, so he shared with me (since cheesecake is much better than carrot cake!).
Corn Dogs - and they're all gone, as they do.
Spaghetti - but not enough for leftovers, even though I tried. I've a feeling that trying is what makes me make less somehow.
Chili Tator Tot Bake - I forgot the cheese somehow, and it wasn't bad.
Farmer Burgers - I'm still not good at making these, it's always a mess, but they taste good, so I'm willing to put up with their fiddliness.
Baked Potatoes + Chili - I've still not figured out how to get the potatoes done quite right. I cut them up similar to Hasselback potatoes, stick them in the oven, and they just don't taste like I want them to. I'm thinking for next time I will cut them into bits and bake them that way, to put in the chili itself.
Grilled Cheese - soup still hasn't been on sale!
Dominos - the chicken pizza. Highly recommend.
Ramen - because I was lazy.
Breakfast Burritos - scrambled egg, tator tot, and ketchup. Simple. But filling.
Nachos - also good for movie or YouTube or Twitch.tv watching.
Enchamac - this time, only because I knew we would be eating macaroni and cheese twice in a week, and wanted to have one "different."
Biscuits + Gravy - canned/rolled biscuits, and gravy mix, and ground sausage. Also, this may sound weird, but I dump the sausage into the gravy once it's done, sausage fatty liquid and all. There's not much, as it's mostly decently lean, but there is always some. And yes, the gravy does improve because of it. Though probably not the most healthy choice (and, as you may have noticed, that's not necessarily something on our radar).
If you count our fast food for the month, it's three (including delivery).
If you count our store-bought junk foods, it's three.
So 6 non-real dinners out of 31 days isn't too shabby. 20%, though, and that sounds a bit horrible. Let's stick with saying 6 out of 31, eh?

We do a lot of bean burritos, rice and beans, I can't ever seem to get enough Mexican! So good :)
ReplyDeleteWe would willingly eat Mexican food of multiple varieties every day if it was manageable! It's just so good! Though I wish nacho cheese was easier to come by! We had found, a few years ago, at a restaurant supply type of store, a giant vat (like 7 pounds!) of the stuff, and it was decently priced, but we could never get through it all before it got moldy (sadly). Velveeta isn't nacho cheese, in my opinion, so our homemade nachos are less cheese based and more bean/chili based, to avoid disappointment ;)
DeleteThank you so much for stopping by! :)
