I do.
And I also remember that I actually finished this project on the 28th of March. In only a few hours, even - and I was shocked.
Because it really was horrible to start.
Well, I take that back. It wasn't horrible, but it was a mess of boxes and clothes and cables and totes and things and stuff and stuff and things - what closets are made of, right?
...I don't think that's true, actually. At least they shouldn't be.
Now I cannot say that our closet isn't still full of cables and clothes and stuff and things, but it's a much better situation than it used to be. It's organized. I can walk in there with a purpose, and not have to spend more than a few seconds finding what I am after.
And that's an amazing thing for our home.
In regards to the original post, I figured only showing you my side of the closet made the most sense - it was my mess, I was the one responsible, and that was the part of the closet I was going to work on.
Which, is alright, except for the fact that I really did need to work on the Mister's side of things in order for the closet to be functional.
And then for my side, I got all the clothes hung back up, and the clothes on the shelf grouped together again like they ought to be.
Not too much work overall, other than untangling totes of cables and figuring out what was what. It really just looked like a lot of work - like most projects seem to!
The great thing is that we don't actually have that much in the way of clothes - it's the amount of other stuff that makes the need for an organized master closet strong.
But, the clothes are accessible, as well as the other stuff that we have collected in there.
If you look at it this way, it seems a bit weird to have so little floor space - but there is a 40 gallon and 10 gallon fish tank on the floor on the left, as well as a few other things, so the actual floor space is quite taken up.
I had went through my clothes, even though I didn't think I needed to, and managed to get rid of a few extra things. Nothing to write home about, but I am glad that I did because I have some unused hangers now (this isn't all of the clothes - there was a load of laundry that needed to be done).
I also figured that using that far left top shelf bit for stuff that doesn't get used often - an extra purse and swimming clothes made the most sense. Things to keep, but things that are needed very, very rarely in a place I can't reach well!
Is it perfect?
No.
Is there still fish stuff in there? Yes. And an extra stereo thing? Yes.
But, is that okay?
Yes.
This was that pile of cables and whatnots...and now it is labeled and organized and beautiful. And we have actually already used this system to try and find a cable (granted, one we didn't actually have, but the system works, I promise!). And, to be honest, it's just about half as tall of a stack of stuff as it used to be.
Things are with their like things. I can walk in the closet in the dark and not have to worry about stepping on cords or adapters or who-knows-what.
And that was really all I wanted to do...so, success!

Well done! It looks a lot more user friendly. I feel for you sorting out all the cables etc, that is my next planned job at home as we have a pile of PC stuff filling the spare room that my son wants turned into his room. I must admit that at the moment I look in there with good intentions, and then walk back out feeling overwhelmed before I start...
ReplyDeleteThe PC stuff sorting was the hardest part, honestly, because it was pretty much a rat's nest of cables and cords and things. It's amazing at how much more space it takes up being all jumbled versus being stored (mostly) neatly! Now the problem will be, though, keeping all the cords in the boxes...and not strewing them about when we need that one VGA cable that is probably at the bottom of the pile (okay probably not VGA, but you get the idea!).
DeleteThe good intentions/walking back out is my normal way of going about things! The only reason I actually got down to business with this project is because the Mister had to play PC games all day for the AMDVLAN and I had things to do in the afternoon, so the time was going to be, well, useless unless I did the closet - somehow, it worked out xD
Thanks for stopping by! :)
