I hear you, I really do. I wouldn't normally be thinking this far ahead, either. But, facts are facts. Time flies. And it will be the time soon enough - and probably sooner than we think it should be!
I'm happy to say I have three presents done. But, as one does, I've added two more to my list, on top of everything else I'm planning on doing. Counter-productive, yes, but that's just how presents tend to go.
I'm feeling on schedule, for the most part, but thinking about it all does get a bit overwhelming! Though, from what I've done so far, my timeline is not going to be a problem - so long as I don't get too lazy with it!
But, you see, I've got some things done. And I'm in a bind.
What in the world do you do with yarn-y gifts until the time of gifting? How do you wrap them? Do you use a box or just fold and wrap? Do you wrap now, or store away until it's closer to time to gift?
It may sound silly, but it's not, I promise.
You see, I switched our sheets last weekend, and I remembered something. Fabrics, if left in storage (as our sheets are in an underbed tote) tend to, well, pick up and store scents. And while the sheets were clean when I put them away, they needed a fresh wash.
I've had crocheted blankets, and sheets, and a quit stored away in a plastic tote for a few months before, and when I went to take them out, they smelled of plastic. Which is not really all that great a scent when wanting to cuddle up with a blanket!
And while it will wash out, it's no fun to deal with.
So, for now, I've got my completed gifts in a cardboard box with a fabric softener sheet (don't worry, I buy the cheap ones, so nothing will end up smelling like anything - it's just to prevent other smells getting in).
But I've bought wrapping paper already (which is very uncharacteristic of me!), as I have a few non-yarn-y things for the Mister to wrap, and am trying to decide what to do with my knit things.
Do I leave them for a bit? Would it even make sense to wrap them, or should I find some boxes (the kind you buy flat and fold up) and wrap those? Should I wait a while more?
For the minute, I'll keep things unwrapped and hidden away. But if you have any suggestions or tips or tricks or magic knowledge that you would like to pass along, I am more than welcoming to it!

Oh I love the fabric softener sheet idea! Am I the only one that hasn't thought of that? I hate it when guests come and I pull out once clean sheets and they smell like the closet. ugh - you may have saved me time and water to rewash my sheets. Tip for you - just make sure you remember where you hide the gifts. I have been known to buy or make gifts early and then forget about them or can't find them when the time rolls around. LOL
ReplyDeleteI dunno who all has thought of it already - I'm sure it's not a novel idea, but it made perfect sense to me, and thought it was worth at least mentioning! :D I've yet to forget where gifts are stored. I actually make a note of where they are kept when doing the rest of my Christmas planning. I've got a list of gifts that need to be bought or made, then when they are completed they get a note of where they are hidden away. Definitely something I suggest to anyone who gathers presents before there is a tree to keep them under!
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by! :D
Honestly, I should have started Christmas knitting in January...but wrapping I always tend to put off until Christmas Eve. I have wrapped early before, but then forgot what was in the wrapping, and ended up buying way more because I would wrap and put things away not to be seen or thought of again until Christmas Eve. Now I put it all in bins in my closet...with a list :-)
ReplyDeleteIf I was smart, I would have started projects well before I did - but even when I did start is considered early for me - at least I'll have a gauge for next year to go off of!
DeleteI have the list part down, lists are my jam! My issue with wrap now-or-later is there isn't any better place to store them, except for as they are now, and there are multiple different Christmas events going on, some gifts that will need to be mailed out, etc. Hopefully I can get everything finished at a decent time, though, and can have just one day to wrap and label everything, that sounds fantastic!
Thank you so much for stopping by! :D
