Last week, though, I was finally getting tired of Pinterest browsing and decided I needed an actual project. And that's when I figured it out...I needed to be working on Christmas presents!
Realistically, Christmas is much closer than it seems.
A quick Google search brought up this Christmas Countdown web page that says there are only 65 days left!
So, on Wednesday of last week, I started on my first Christmas present - a tote bag for my Grandma. I was inspired by a few different patterns on Pinterest, but in the end decided I knew exactly what I was doing and didn't need instructions.

Since starting my Christmas planning, however, I've realized that I can't give gifts as I normally would - I'm out of work, and need to be spending less money. I always intend to make gifts in previous years, but normally give up after one or so - lose motivation, find that the pattern I intended to use was too weird, or I just am not interested enough in the handmade aspect to finish.
This year, however, the goal is to make as many gifts as I can, and spend as little money as I can.
It sounds silly, but honestly I should have been doing this from the very beginning of my gift giving ways! I've given handmade gifts in the past, on a small-scale, and they're always well received. Why not change that to full-scale?
I've got a gift giving list ready to go (which is a free printable!), and I've got my next project started (a blanket for my Dad).
Not the most exciting colors, but he is an outdoors-y kind of guy, and I know he will love it - Dad's are like that! The plan is for it to be a throw-sized blanket, and the pattern is of the ripple variety (it is, however, on the Lion Brand website, so in order to view it you will need to have an account). I have a blanket using that pattern on our couch right now, and it is super warm and cosy.
I have a few more ideas floating around, something with a deer for my Mom, and a sort of smashbook for my younger Cousin.
Of course, my plans aren't final, and at this point they do not cover everyone, but now is the time to start it out!
65 days left!
I have a Pinterest board for Christmas that's rather bare, but will hopefully fill up soon!
Do you have any plans for Christmas yet? Are you done with your Christmas shopping or making?
