We need a Hyenas movie.
You know, the Hyenas from The Lion King.
There is Simba and Nala's kid (Lion King 2) and then Timon and Pumbaa's story (Lion King 1.5). But we haven't seen any details about the Hyenas.
And man, they could be awesome.
Hear me out.
Where did they come from? Why did they side with Scar? Do they realize they are bad guys, or do they just need a leader and food?
First, the Minions movie. The Minions are popular, they got their own movie, they were technically bad guys (though trying to be good). The Hyenas are, more than likely, not inherently bad, like Scar. Plus, they're funny in the same vein as the Minions - but with actual words. Also, remember Ed? He didn't talk, but he was one of the funniest things - "This is your son?! Did you know that?" "Me, no! I didn't know, no! Did you?" "No! Of course not!" In unison, "Ed?" *head nodding, with sound, and tongue sticking out* - how is that NOT funny?!?! Think, a whole movie of this stuff! It would be hilarious!
Second, think of the children! Lion King 1.5 came out in 2004. That was ELEVEN years ago. Lion King came out in 1994, and Lion King 2 came out in 1998. Technically, this movie is overdue! People my age, that grew up with the Lion King, are having children. And what better way to make these older movies more relevant than a new one?! Think of the money, Disney! Think of the adults and children that would benefit from bringing this universe back! We don't need Cars 3, we need more Lion King.
Third, it's not a princess, so there won't be any hate thrown at Disney for that.
Fourth, we get to bring back one of the best animated villain songs of all time (it's tied with Ursula's song from The Little Mermaid). I will leave it here for your listening pleasure (because, seriously, best villain song).
Of course, I don't know how the story would go, other than have it in the same vein as 1.5, but come on, would it be that bad? No, probably not, they have a ton of source material to work with, and yet a huge amount of play with the story that they can do (again, similar to 1.5).
This has only bugged me because I had been leaving The Lion King on when we would leave the house, and then end up watching a chunk of the movie after coming back to the house. The whole idea sort of just came naturally, and it's rather exciting.
Get on it, Disney!

P.S. I would settle for a TV show, akin to Timon & Pumbaa, though it would only need to be one season. Even a TV only movie that's an hour and a half, including commercials. It wouldn't live up 100% to the potential here, but that's why it's called "settling."
That would be SO AWESOME! Although I wonder who they would use to do the voices? I doubt Whoopi would want to come back and do any voice acting for the movie. :(
ReplyDeleteThat's what my Mister said, in regards to Whoopi not wanting to do the voice. I dunno the story behind that, but is kind of sad. I'm sure they could find someone who could get close, though - the little kids won't know the difference, and I'm sure a lot of the adults would understand.
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by! :)
